It is a privilege to welcome you to State Takmil-ut-Tib College & Hospital, one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions dedicated to Unani medical education and healthcare in India.
Established in 1902 as Takmeel-ut-Tib College and Hospital by the eminent physician, scholar, and visionary Shaikh-ul-Hind Hakim Abdul Aziz (1855–1911), the institution was founded with the objective of promoting, preserving, and advancing the rich scientific heritage of the Unani System of Medicine. Widely recognized as Asia’s oldest Tibbi educational institution, the college has played a pioneering role in the development of Unani medical education, clinical practice, and research for more than a century.
Over the decades, the institution has evolved into a distinguished center of higher learning, producing generations of competent physicians, academicians, researchers, and healthcare professionals who have made significant contributions to the healthcare sector. In 1982, the college was provincialized by the Government of Uttar Pradesh and subsequently came to be known as State Takmil-ut-Tib College and Hospital, Lucknow, further strengthening its role in public health education, healthcare delivery, and professional training.
At present, the college offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Unani Medicine and Surgery. The institution houses seven postgraduate (M.D./M.S. Unani) departments with a total annual intake capacity of 35 postgraduate scholars. These programmes provide rigorous academic training, extensive clinical exposure, and meaningful research opportunities across various specialties of Unani medicine, thereby fostering the development of future educators, researchers, clinicians, and healthcare leaders.
The institution takes pride in maintaining high standards of academic quality, infrastructure, patient care, and governance. In recognition of its commitment to excellence, the college has been awarded ‘A’ Grade Accreditation through the assessment process conducted by the Quality Council of India in collaboration with the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine. This achievement reflects the institution’s dedication to quality assurance, continuous improvement, and adherence to national standards in medical education and healthcare services.
The college is supported by a dedicated faculty, well-equipped academic departments, an attached teaching hospital, and an intellectually stimulating environment that promotes excellence in teaching, learning, patient care, and research. While firmly rooted in the classical principles of Unani medicine, the institution remains responsive to contemporary healthcare challenges through evidence-based practices, interdisciplinary collaboration, and academic innovation.
As Principal, I am deeply conscious of the responsibility of preserving the institution’s distinguished legacy while guiding it toward new horizons of academic and professional excellence. Our continued focus is on strengthening educational standards, promoting high-quality research, enhancing healthcare delivery, and contributing to the national and global advancement of the Unani System of Medicine.
I invite students, scholars, healthcare professionals, alumni, and visitors to engage with our institution and join us in our pursuit of knowledge, service, and innovation. Together, we shall continue to uphold the vision of our founder and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of healthcare, education, and society.
With best wishes,
Prof. Abdul Quavi
