The department of ilmul jarahat at state takmil ut tib college and hospital, Lucknow, U.P. has a glorious past as Takmil ut tib college, a school of thought. This department was established and had served the general public since 1960’s(approx). In that era the college was a private institute but pupil of this department had enough exposures to major and minor surgical procedures like Hydrocele, Hernia and large no of ophthalmic surgeries for about 2 and 1\2 decades till 1980’s carried by modern surgeon’s who were privately attached to the institute. In 1972 when Takmil ut tib got affiliated to university, this department of Ilmul Jarahat remained to be one among the six pillar departments. Further in 1982 the institute was undertaken by provincial government of Uttar Pradesh, the department continued to be an eminent one and vacancies for permanent faculties were called upon. Uptill then till the year 2006 when C.C.I.U.M ordered to seprate the department of Ilmul Jarahiyat which included Jarahiyat, Ain (opthalmology), Uzn, Anaf o Halq (otorhinolaryngeology) and Asnan (dental). Finally in the year 2009 these departments were bifurcated to become two different independent functioning Departments of Ilmul Jarahat and Department of Ain Uzn, Anaf, Halq wa Asnan at State Takmil ut Tib college and hospital, Lucknow. Presently, the department is eminently functioning with one higher Faculty and two lower Faculties to accomplish all the needs of Academic and hospital duties. On the Academic side the department contains a departmental Museum with surgical instrument, models, educational charts etc, a departmental Library for helping the undergraduate students to carry their Practical Classes smoothly and a visual audio unit to demonstrate surgical cases and procedures. Hospital block of Ilmul Jarahat has an OPD attached with a dressing room, an IPD and an Operation theatre on the 3rd floor of the hospital. In the year 2018, the department was proud to conduct CME, a six day’s programme [24th – 29th September 2018] sanctioned by Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India New Delhi; for the 1st time in the country.
